Private Lancelot Graham, 2nd Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He was killed in action in North Russia on 23rd September 1919, aged 20. He was the son of Lancelot and Jane Ann Graham of Townfoot, Newcastleton and is commemorated on the Archangel Memorial, Russia. Before enlisting he had been employed as a tailor by John Anderson of Eaglesfield. At that time Allied Forces had intervened in Russia and were in action against the Bolshevik armies in support of the then Russian Government known as the “Whites”. He was a member of “D” Coy. which was posted to the Murmansk front. The Company was under orders to round up a party of Bolsheviks near Kandalaksha on the coast but the landing party in four boats came under fire and one boat was lost.
