Private John McNeil, 4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died in Egypt in a road accident on 8th May 1943, aged 24. He was the husband of Gloria McNeil of Canonbie and is buried in Suez War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. His Headstone is inscribed “At Rest”. ( At this time the Battalion was in Scotland on training exercises so it is a bit of a mystery why Private McNeil was in Egypt ). There is no mention in the Battalion history of a Private McNeil becoming a casualty during the War so it is possible that he had been attached to another Unit ( Possible the 2nd K.O.S.B who were stationed in India at the time ).
