Private John Davidson

Private John Davidson, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action at Gallipoli on 4th June 1915 and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Turkey. He was the son of Mr John Davidson of 2 Laing Terrace, Hawick. He was a Regular Soldier  and had serve seven years four of them in India. He fell during the Third Battle of Krithia which had been planned as a general attack from one side of the Peninsula to the other.The attack despite bombardments from the Pre Dreadnoughts ” Vengeance” and ” Swiftsure “along 4,000 yards of Front failed with heavy casualties although the Battalion did capture one Turkish trench. The first photograph shows H.M.S. “Swiftsure” and the second the Battalion going over the top that morning.
