Private John Gibson Bell, 15th Battalion, ( 48th Highlanders of Canada ), Canadian Infantry. He died from wounds in France in the 11th Canadian Field Ambulance on 17th August 1918, aged 31 during the ” Advance to Victory”. He was the son of Richard Bell of Holmhead, Newcastleton and is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Le Quesnel, Somme, France. He had emigrated to Canada and was farming near Port Albert, Saskatchewan where he had served with the local Militia. He had previously been wounded in action in September 1917.
