Second Lieutenant George Miller

Second Lieutenant George Miller, Royal Flying Corps. He died from wounds suffered in air combat over German lines on 31st March 1918, aged 25, during the German March Offensive. He had been born in Kirkton and was the son of Mr and Mrs George Miller of 21 Yarrow Terrace, Hawick and is buried in Mons ( Bergen ) Communal Cemetery, Mons, France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Thy Will Be Done”. His address was given as 9 Langholm Street, Newcastleton when he enlisted. He was commissioned into the R.F.C. in August 1917 and joined 80 Squadron which went to France in January 1918 with its Sopwith Camel fighters. He was shot down in combat near Bapaume, Somme on the 25th March 1918 and died in a German Field Hospital in Mons.
