Warrant Officer John Andrew Jenkinson

Warrant Officer John Andrew Jenkinson ,Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was a Wireless Operator and was lost on an Air Operation with 98 Squadron over France on 13th June 1944 ,aged 22 years.  He had been born in Eccles and was the son of Jane and the late Andrew Jenkins of Leitholm and the husband of Jessie Jenkinson of Norwich and is buried  at Fontaine – La- Louvet, Eure, France in a communal grave with his comrades.  98 Squadron flew the twin engined B25 Mitchell medium Bomber and at the time of loss were flying in support of the Normandy Landings. He was the son of Barbara Jenkinson of Allandale Cottage Main Street, Leitholm. After leaving school he worked in an office and joined the R.A.F.V.R. He did his initial training at Charterhall before being posted to Lincolnshire where he met and married Jessie Robbins in 1943. His Headstone is inscribed ” With You My Deepest Love Lies Sleeping Now Secure. Jessie And Our Sheila Too “.
