Private Arnold Robinson

Private Arnold Robinson, 11th ( Service ) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He died from wounds in the No. 8 Red Cross Hospital on 15th November 1915 in France, aged 25 years. He had been carrying a bag of grenades when he was hit by rifle fire setting off the bombs and inflicting terrible injuries. He had been born in Etal Village, Glendale  and was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Robinson of Leitholm and is buried in Le Touquet-Paris Plage Communal Cemetery. France. His Headstone is inscribed ” Gone But Not Forgotten “.  When Arnold was born his father was a coachman on Etal Estate before moving to Leitholm to run the Plough Inn. Before enlisting in September 1914 with his brother Theodore (who survived the War) he had worked as a grocer in Greenlaw. He went to France with his Battalion in July 1915 and fought at Loos in September.
