Private William Alexander Galbraith, 1st/4th ( Border ) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Palestine, aged 24, on 19th April 1917 during the Second Battle of Gaza and is commemorated on the Gaza War Memorial, Gaza, Israel. He fell in the assault on “Outpost Hill” near Gaza where the Battalion suffered heavy casualties. ( see fuller details under Captain Walter Forrest ). He was born in Sprouston and was the son of Thomas and the late Jane Galbraith of Graden, Linton, Roxbutghshire. The photographs show the Borderers in Palestine in 1917.
