Stoker James Muir

Stoker James Muir, Royal Navy Patrol Service. He died on Active Service, aged 35, on 3rd November 1942 and is buried in Gillingham ( Woodlands ) Cemetery, Kent.  He accidentally drowned  when his dinghy overturned in the River Swale, Kent.  He was the son of William and Nellie Muir of 11 Grove Hill, Kelso. He served aboard H.M.S “Cervantes” which operated from H.M.S. “Wildfire” a shore base on the River Medway. The Patrol Service operated many small auxiliary craft such as naval trawlers for anti submarine  and minesweeping operations to protect the coastline and coastal convoys.
