Private Archibald Naismith Cockburn, Kings Own Scottish Borderers, attached to 5th Battalion Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. He died from wounds in hospital in Egypt on 18th November 1942 in the aftermath of the Battle of El Alamein, aged 24. He was the son of James and Mary Cockburn of Orchard Park, Kelso and is buried in El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt. His Headstone is inscribed ” Abide With Me “.Before enlisting he had been employed as a parcels boy in the Scottish Motor Transport office in Kelso.
