Private Alexander Whitelaw

Private Alexander Whitelaw, 5th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in Belgium on 6th March 1916, aged 23. Originally he was buried in Rosenberg Chateau Military Cemetery but after the War the Owner ( ungrateful swine ! ) objected to a cemetery on his land and so in 1930 all the graves including Private Whitelaw were moved to Berks Cemetery Extension, Plogsteert, Flanders, Belgium. He was the son of Elizabeth and the late Thomas Whitelaw of Yetholm Mill, Kelso. He had emigrated to Saskatchewan before the War.
