Private Alexander McBain, 31st Battalion ( Alberta ) Canadian Infantry. He died of wounds in No.1 Casualty Clearing Station in France on 30th August 1918, aged 34. during the ” Advance to Victory”. He was the husband of Margaret McBain of 4 Winchester Row, Kelso and is buried in Ligny-St. Flochel British Cemetery, Averdoingt, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of William and Mary McBain of Salen, Argyll and was a surveyor before enlisting in Edmonton, Canada on 18th September 1915. The photographs show the Allied troops advancing after the retreating Germans in the final 100 days of the War. The third photo shows Canadian troops after they had recaptured the Town of Mons. This is where the British Army had fought its first action of the War on 23rd August 1914. The wheel had come full circle.
