Driver Frank Elliot

Driver Frank Hall Elliot, 13th Pontoon Park, Royal Engineers. He died on Active Service in Egypt, aged 34, on the 18th December 1918. He had been born in Earlsheugh, Jedburgh and was the adopted son of Robert and Margaret Hall Elliot of Burgh View and “Mayfield” , Jedburgh. He had been employed as a groom at Newton Don stables near Kelso when he enlisted as a trooper in the 1st/2nd Scottish Horse in October 1914 He joined his Unit in Egypt in February 1916 and later transferred to the Royal Engineers. He contracted malaria and died in Kantara. He is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery Egypt where his Headstone is inscribed ” He Fought The Good Fight”.
