Sapper Joseph Fair

Sapper Joseph Fair, 107th Railway Company, Royal Engineers. He died on Service in the 42nd General Hospital at Salonika, aged 37, on the 18th December 1918 and is buried in Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece.  He had been born in Coldingham, Berwickshire and was the son of Margaret and the late George Fair of Cherry Tree Cottage, Grantshouse, Berwickshire. He had been employed on the Hartrigge Estate, Jedburgh when he enlisted as a driver in the Army Service Corps in November 1914. Later he was transferred to the Royal Engineers and served with the Light Railway Operating Company at Salonika.
