Sergeant Robert Aitchison, 102 ( Ceylon ) Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed on 17th September 1944 aged 23. He was the son of John and Jane Aitchison of Reston and he is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Runnymede, England. In 1944 the Squadron was flying Handley Page Halifaxes from RAF Pocklington as part of 4 Group Main Bomber Force. At the time of loss they were on a training flight to dispose of bombs over the North Sea and were lost without trace.
