Private John Kilbride

Private John Kilbride, 7th/8th ( Service )Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 34, on 23rd July 1918 and is buried in Buzancy Military Cemetery, France.  He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of Michael and the late Janet Kilbride of Cramond, Edinburgh and the husband of Catherine Kilbride of South Renton, Reston.  Before enlisting he had been employed as an insurance agent living in Renton, Coldingham. He fell during the Second Battle of the Marne in the advance towards the village of Buzancy. In this hard fought advance the casualties were heavy with 95 Other Ranks being killed and 214 wounded. Officer casualties were 2 killed and 7 wounded.
