Private Thomas Scott, 1st Battalion, Scots Guards. He died at Home on 22nd November 1918, aged 28, and is buried in Cockburnspath Churchyard. He was the son of Andrew and Agnes Scott of Cove Farm, Cockburnspath. He was a native of Galashiels and had played rugby for Melrose Rugby Football Club. He had been granted compassionate leave from France to visit his dying three year old daughter who sadly died on 11th November. Eleven days later Private Scott also died from the same Spanish flu, an epidemic then sweeping the World and which killed more people than the War itself. He had been employed as a mason before enlisting and had fought in all the major battles before dying after the War had ended.
