Sergeant John Aiken Elliot, 12th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps. He was killed in action in France, aged 26, on the 26th March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive which had begun on the 21st March. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Margaret Elliot of 58 Kirkbrae, Galashiels. He had enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, K.O.S.B. in December 1914 and was posted to the M.G.C. at a later date in 1915 when all Battalion machine gun sections were grouped into M.G.C. Battalions. The M.G.C. used the Vickers Mk2 water cooled gun in both offensive and defensive roles.
