Private William Hoggan

Private William Hoggan, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in France, aged 35, on the 1st August 1918 and is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Agnes and the late William Hoggan of 41 Wilderhaugh, Galashiels and the husband of Flora Hoggan of Gardeners Arms, Carr Hill, Co. Durham. He had been working as a barman in the “Gardeners Arms” when he enlisted in Gateshead in 1915. At some stage in France. he was transferred to the 851st Area Employment Company of the Labour Corps. ( His brother John also died see – below).
