Private Robert Elder

Private Robert Elder, 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 19, on the 12th April 1918 during the German offensive on the River Lys. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of James and Elizabeth Elder of 13 Union Street, Galashiels. He is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Flanders Belgium. On 12th April the Battalion was near Locon helping to prevent a German break through and in succeeding suffered 323 casualties in Officers and Other Ranks.
