Private John Hastie, 12th (Service) Battalion, Black Watch. He died on Service, aged 35, on the 26th May 1919 and is buried in Perth ( Jeanfield and Wellshill) Cemetery, Perthshire. His Headstone is inscribed “At Rest”. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of William and Isabella Hastie of 21 Low Buckholmside, Galashiels. He had been a woolspinner before enlisting and at some stage he had been transferred to the Scottish Command Labour Centre, Labour Corps. He died from pneumonia in Queen’s Barracks Hospital in Perth. ( At that time the “Spanish Flu epidemic was sweeping the world ).
