Private John Hardie, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in Belgium, aged 37, on the 26th March 1915 and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium. He had been born in Coldstream and was the son of Annie Hardie of 72 High Buckholmside, Galashiels and 9 Greenside Place, Edinburgh. He had served in South Africa with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Scots during the Second Anglo Boer War and in August 1914 he enlisted in the K.O.S.B. Reserve. At the time he was working in the Buckholmside Skin Works and was posted to hios Battalion in France in December 1914.
