Private John Ferguson

Private John Ferguson, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France, aged 28, on the 26th February 1917 and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He had been born in Ledgerwood, Berwickshire and was the son of Hugh and Catherine Ferguson of Ledgerwood and the husband of Joan Ferguson of 9 Damside, Galashiels. Before enlisting he had been employed as a carter. The Battalion spent February partly in the front line and partly at Meaulte. On the 26th a patrol under Lt. Routledge penetrated and bombed a German trench but the Regimental History makes no mention of casualties
