Private James Fraser, 8th (Service) Battalion, Seaforth Highlanders. He was killed in action in Belgium, aged 36, on the 22nd August 1917 during the Battle of Third Ypres. He had been born in Hopeman, Morayshire and was the son of the late Alexander and Betsy Fraser of Elgin and the husband of Mary Fraser of 99 High Street, Galashiels, He had been employed in the office of the “Southern Reporter” when he enlisted in the 1st/6th Battalion before transferring to the 8th Battalion. in France.
