Private George Henderson

Private George Laing Henderson, 1st/4th (Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at Home, aged 46, on the 19th October 1919 and is buried in Eastlands Cemetery, Galashiels. He had been born in St. Boswells and was the son of the late John and Isabella Henderson formerly of Galashiels and the husband of Catherine Henderson of 214 Halliburton Place, Galashiels. He had enlisted in the Black Watch as a Regular soldier in 1890 and later became a member of the Territorial 4th K.O.S.B. whilst working as a drawer in a woollen mill in Galashiels. He was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914 and went to Gallipoli in June 1915. He saw further service in Egypt and Palestine before being discharged from the Army in May 1917 suffering from T.B.
