Second Lieutenant James Hunter

Second Lieutenant James Gladstone Hunter, 4th Battalion, Royal Scots attd 1st/ 5th Battalion, South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France, aged 24, on the 14th March 1917 and is buried in Foncquevillers Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of George and Isabella Hunter of Glenpark, Galashiels. He had worked in his father’s woollen mill in Galashiels before enlisting in the Lothian and Border Horse Yeomanry as a private. He was commissioned into the Royal Scots before being attached to the South Staffs in July 1916.
