Lance Corporal Percy Frier

Lance Corporal Percy Bowman Frier, 1st Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died from wounds in France, aged 25, on the 7th February 1917 and is buried in Grove Town Cemetery, Meulte, Somme, France. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of William and Isabella Frier of 37 Woodside Place, Galashiels. He had been employed in the Wilderbank Mill in Galashiels when he enlisted in the 4th Battalion before being posted to the 1st Battalion in France in November 1916. He died in the 2/2nd London Casualty Clearing Station, Meaulte. During February the Battalion were in trenches near Meaulte near Albert on the Somme and suffered some casualties from shellfire.
