Lance Corporal Patrick Fairley, 10th (Service) Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. He was killed in action in France, aged 35, on the 16th September 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He had been born in Perth and was the son of John and the late Mary Fairley formerly of Stirling Street, Galashiels. and the husband of Annie Fairley of 39 Framwellgate, Durham whom he had married in Durham in 1902. Before enlisting he had been employed as a stoker for a gas company in Durham and had joined his Battalion in France in December 1915. He left a widow and 7 children.
