Gunner Michael Henry, 219th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. He died from wounds in Belgium, aged 38, on the 7th July 1917 and is buried in Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium where his Headstone is inscribed ” I Thank God For Every Remembrance Of My Dear Husband”. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of George and Isabella Henry of 4 St. John Street, Galashiels and the husband of Isabella Henry of 202 Morningside Road, Edinburgh. He had moved to Edinburgh in 1901 and was working as a mercantile Clerk when he enlisted in May 1916 going to France with his Battery in December 1916. The R.G.A. used the 9.2 inch Howitzer against German strongpoints and transport systems with its plunging fire. The photo shows an example held in the Imperial War Museum in London.
