Trooper Charles Rieve Dalgleish, Canadian Cavalry Brigade, Machine Gun Section. He died from wounds in France, aged 28, on the 1st April 1918. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of the late Charles and Janet Dalgleish formerly of 284 Galapark Road, Galashiels, He had emigrated to Canada and was ranching in Saskatchewan when he enlisted in December 1914 He was posted to the Royal Canadian Dragoons and was attached to the M.G. Squadron in August 1916. He was struck by shrapnel from a stray shell whilst watering horses at Castell Woods near Amiens and died in a nearby French Field Ambulance. He is buried in Namps-Au-Val British Cemetery, Somme, France.
