Sergeant William Clark

Sergeant William Ritchie Clark, 155th Company, Machine Gun Corps. He died from wounds in Palestine on the 10th November 1917. He had been born in Carlisle and was the son of William and Annie Clark of 13 Roxburgh Street, Galashiels. He was a member of the Territorial, Kings Own Scottish Borderers and was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914 serving in Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine. Here he was transferred to the Brigade’s Machine Gun Company. He died in a Field Ambulance at Deir el Belah but his grave was lost. The M.G. C used the Vickers Mk2 water cooled gun which could be used in both an offensive and defensive role.
