Private William Temple Darling, 6th (Service) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Service, aged, 40 on 3rd March 1919 and is buried in Eastlands Cemetery, Galashiels. He had been born in Peebles and was the son of William and the late Jean Darling of 33 Queen Street, Galashiels. In 1901 he had emigrated to the U.S.A. but returned in July 1915 to enlist and was posted to the 2nd Battalion before transferring to the 6th Battalion. He died from influenza in the Norfolk War Hospital, Norwich. At that time the “Spanish Flu” epidemic was sweeping the World and caused many more fatalities than the War.
