Private John Scott Crombie, 1st/4th (Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died at Gallipoli, aged 25, on the 28th June 1915 and is buried in Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Gallipoli, Turkey. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of John and Joanna Crombie of 18 Scott Crescent, Galashiels. He had been a Territorial with the 4th K.O.S.B and was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914 landing on Gallipoli as part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division on 15th June 1915. He had been Secretary and Captain of the Gala Harriers Club. The Battalion had only moved into front line trenches on 22nd June and during their five days had suffered 14 casualties.
