Private James R. Davidson, 7th (Service) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 11th May 1916 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France. He had been born in Kelso but was living in Galashiels when he enlisted landing in France with the Battalion in May 1915. At this time the Battalion were in in the Loos Hill 70 sector near the Hoenzollern Redoubt and suffered casualties from heavy shelling on the 11th in preparation for a German attack on the “Kink” position of the front line. On the 19th May the Battalion was amalgamated with the 8th Battalion to form the 7th/8th K.O.S.B.
