Private George Brown

Private George Brown, 12th ( Service) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. he died from wounds in Belgium, aged 25, on the 25th July 1917 and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of George and Mary Brown of 6 Ladhope Bank, Galashiels. Before enlisting he had worked as a pattern weaver at Buckholm Mill, Galashiels. He had originally enlisted in the 2nd K.O.S.B. but was later transferred to the H.L.I. ( His brother John also fell – see below).
