Private Ernest Bold, 1st/4th ( Territorial) Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He died from wounds in France, aged 33, on the 6th October 1918 during the “Advance to Victory”. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of Agnes Bold of Galashiels. He was the husband of Grace Bold whom he had married in Edinburgh in 1912. When he enlisted he had been working as a warehouseman and living in Edinburgh. He had served in Egypt and Palestine before moving with the rest of the 52nd (Lowland) Division in April 1918. He is buried in Hermes Hill British Cemetery, France. The photos show Allied troops advancing after the retreating German Army during the final 100 days of the War.
