Lance Corporal David M. Dick, 1st/4th (Border) Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He died on Active Service in St. Georges Hospital in Malta, aged 33, on the 10th November 1915 and is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. He had been born in Edinburgh and was the son of James and Margaret Dick of 47 Bank Street, Galashiels. He had been employed as a cabinet maker and had enlisted in the 4th Territorial K.O.S.B. in June 1913 where he became a drummer in the band. He was mobilised with the Battalion in August 1914 and went to Gallipoli in June 1915 as part of the 52nd (Lowland) Division. He had been recommended for the D.C.M. for his actions as a stretcher bearer during the “Charge” at Achi Baba Nullah on the 12th July but the award had not been made fore he became ill and evacuated to Malta.
