Lance Corporal Alexander Thomson Chisholm, 8th (Service) Battalion, Black Watch. He was killed in France, aged 23, on the 19th July 1915 and is buried in Gorre British and Indian Cemetery, France. He had been born in Galashiels and was the son of the late Janet and Archibald Chisholm formerly of 12 Union Street, Galashiels. He lived with his elder brother James in Stow and was a well known runner with Gala Harriers.He joined his Battalion in France in May 1915. On July 15th the Battalion move from the front line into reserve and here some casualties occurred from shelling. His brother Archibald also fell see above.
