Captain Reginald Trotter M.I.D.

Captain Reginald Baird Trotter, Mentioned in Dispatches, 2nd Battalion, Cameron Highlanders. He was killed on 9th May 1915 during the Battle of Aubers Ridge aged 41. He had been born in London and was the son of Major General Sir Henry Trotter G.C.V.O. and the Hon. Lucy Trotter of Morton Hall  MidLothian and Charterhall, Berwickshire and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial. He was the brother of Edward Trotter  ( see above ). He had joined the Camerons from the Royal Scots Militia in 1899 and had seen service in the second Anglo-Boer War. The attack on Aubers Ridge was fought at the behest of the French General Joffre to assist his Spring Offensive in the Artois area and was a complete failure which gained no ground and cost the British Army 11,000 casualties. The photographs were taken during the Battle.
