Able Seaman Christopher Borthwick

Able Seaman Christopher Watson Borthwick, Royal Naval Patrol Service. He was lost at sea on Active Service on 7th May 1940, aged 29, aboard H.M. Steam Trawler “Michael Griffiths”. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of Alexander and the late Mary Borthwick of Hurkur Crescent, Eyemouth and is buried in Southport ( Duke Street ) Cemetery. Before enlisting he had worked in the fishing industry and this was his first trip. The “Michael Griffiths” was a steam trawler, based in Fleetwood, which was requisitioned in 1939 by the Admiralty and was employed in minesweeping.
