Private Alexander Paterson

Private Alexander Paterson, 1st Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers.  He died on Active Service in France, aged 19, on 26th April 1917 during the Battle of Arras and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. He had been born in Eyemouth and was the son of Alexander and Margaret Paterson of Eyemouth and Granton, Edinburgh.  He had served his apprenticeship in Eyemouth before going to work in Edinburgh. The photographs show British troops during the Battle. He and a comrade died when his dugout collapsed
