Corporal Robert Wilson

Corporal Robert S. Wilson, ( possibly) 7th Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in Holland at Arnhem during Operation “Market Garden2 between 25th and 26th September 1944 aged 24. He was the son of Mrs Janet Wilson of Gatehouse, Kircudbrightshire. He is buried in Arnhem Osterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem, Holland. The Battalion was airlifted into the battle by gliders and suffered very heavy casualties in the ferocious fighting against Germans with heavy weapons including tanks and assault guns. After being withdrawn west of the Rhine only 4 Officers and 72 Other Ranks answered the Roll Call out of 740 all ranks who had gone into battle. Willie Kerr , pictured below, from Coldstream was one of the few who made it back over the Rhine. The photos show troops in action during the Battle.
