Sergeant Alexander Lyle

Sergeant Alexander Lyle, Wireless Operator/ Air Gunner, 101 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed on Air Operations over Germany on 27th July 1942 aged 22. He had been born at Nisbet Mill, Crailing, Roxburghshire and was the son of Thomas and Isabella Lyle of Eccles Mains farm and Greenlaw and is buried in Becklingen War Cemetery, Germany. ( His twin brother Ian also fell- see below ).At the time of his loss 101 Squadron were flying the Vickers Wellington from Stradishall, Suffolk on Operations over Occupied Europe. His aircraft had left R.A.F. Bourn, Cambridgeshire on a raid to Hamburg but was lost near Bremen with all crew lost.
