Private Oswald Skeen, 21st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers ( 2nd Tyneside Scottish ). He died in France on 20th June 1917 of wounds received in action, aged 37. He was the husband of Hannah Skeen of East Ord, Berwick-upon-Tweed and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, France. It is possible he had been wounded during the attack on “Greenland Hill” near Arras on 5th-8th June. The position was captured and held despite several enemy counter attacks. The photograph shows cheerful British troops returning from their part in the fighting at Arras.
