Private George Simpson

Private George Simpson, 14th ( Service ) Battalion, Highland Light Infantry. He died of wounds in France on 29th July 1917, aged 23, and is buried in Tincourt New British Cemetery, France. He was the son of Mrs Elizabeth Simpson of Kidgate, Earlston and the late Alexander Simpson who had been Farm Stewart at The Fans, Earlston. Before enlisting he had been employed as a ploughman and had originally enlisted in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers in Lauder.
