Private Robert Haggerty, 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards. He was killed in action in France, aged 23, on 17th October 1915. He had been born in Duns and was the son of James and Jane Haggerty of 40 Newtown Street, Duns. He had served his apprenticeship at Lanark Lodge, in Duns and was working as a gardener in Forres when he enlisted in December 1914. He joined his Battalion in France in June 1915. He died in a bombing attack on German trenches in the Loos sector and had been recommended for a Mention in Dispatches. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Dud Corner, Loos, France.
