Private Joseph Nelson, 1st Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. He was killed in action in France on 24th October 1918 during the “Advance to Victory ” aged 34. He was the son of Joseph and Jane Nelson of Elphingstone, Tranent and is buried in Awoingt British Cemetery, Cambrai, France. He had been born in Duns and had previously served in the Kings Own Scottish Borderers and the South Lancashire Regiment. His Headstone is inscribed ” In Loving Memory Of My Dear Son Ever Fondly Remembered “. His photograph shows him whilst still with the K.O.S.B.
