Private Joseph Hastie Dunlop, 2nd Battalion, Kings Own Scottish Borderers. He was killed in action in France on 7th May 1917 during the Battle of Arras, aged 19. He was the son of William and Isabella Dunlop of Gordon, Berwickshire and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Arras, France. He had lived in Duns and had enlisted in the Town. On that date the Battalion were holding front line trenches south of Oppy Wood when they suffered a heavy three hour bombardment and lost 21 killed and 130 wounded.
