Private William Law, 3rd ( Reserve )( Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He died in hospital on the 29th May 1915 aged 24. He was the son of James and Hannah Law of “Sunnyside “, Denholm and is buried in Cavers ( Denholm ) Cemetery. His brother James also fell ( see above ) He had been serving as a policeman in Blyth, Northumberland when he enlisted in April 1915. He had been in the King Street Barracks in Aberdeen when he fell ill with meningitis and died in the Aberdeen City Hospital. The first picture is of what was known as the ” Death Penny” This was a medallion issued to the families of each soldier who died during the War. ( The one pictured was issued to Private Law’s parents is now in the possession of the author ).
