Stoker John McGlasson

Stoker John McGlasson, Royal Naval Reserve. He was killed on 15th April 1917 in the White Sea by a mine explosion whilst aboard H.M.Trawler ” Arctic Prince ” He was the son of Christopher and Elizabeth McGlasson of Hawick and the husband of Christina McGlasson of 8 Marywell Strret, Aberdeen. He was aged 33 and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. The trawler had been requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted for use as a minesweeper. The mine explosion damaged her and killed 6 men who were buried at sea. At some time he had been employed as a barman in the Crown Hotel, Hawick.
